Why the internets are a glorious place

Fearing the wrath of Hurricane Wilma, the NFL re-scheduled this week’s Miami Dolphins game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs from Sunday to tonight. Potential for tragedy aside, this is marvelous good fortune, because it gives me the chance to absorb more football this week. Unfortunately, it’s not being broadcast locally, and I’m not opening up the wallet to find a sports bar in the area. And I don’t have to! A few clicks in Windows Media Player, and I’m now streaming WIBW, AM 580 in beautiful Topeka, Kansas.

Update: The local commercials make it even better. Tractors and masonry are big in Topeka, I'm learning.

The NFL really need to get with the program and put their broadcasts on the internet with something like MLB.tv.

They're nowhere near the front of the curve. Their website offers a feature called "Field Pass" where you can listen to local radio broadcasts of any game in the country, but it's $40 a season. I would need to be in a serious football emergency and have a lot of stupid money to throw around to consider that alternative.

With MLB.tv you can pay around three dollars to watch almost any game you want on a game by game basis. You can also pay fifteen dollars a month to have around 80% of ganes available to you or eighty bucks for the whole season.
